Knowledge-Based Smart Pigging Technology Facilitates Inspection of Oil Pipelines in Iran
“Our knowledge-based company is working on a project to make a smart pigging device. Smart pigs are sensitive equipment in oil industry and one of the 10 basic products of the company,” Abolfazl Soltani, a representative of the company, told ANA.
He referred to the basic applications of the smart tool, saying, “Experts in the oil industry use this smart pigging tool to inspect pipelines. Also, the problems of the pipelines and their increased and decreased thicknesses are determined by this tool.”
“One of the main tasks of the smart pigging instrument is to determine the corrosions, holes and branches on the lines,” he noted.
“In addition to inspecting the oil pipelines, the smart tool is specifically designed to prevent stealing which is one of the problems of pipelines. With this device, operators can quickly detect branches and determine the location,” he underlined.
In a relevant development earlier this year, another knowledge-based company in Iran designed a device with high quality and different capabilities for hot tapping of oil pipelines to eliminate the need for imports.
“The device has a very sensitive function and its quality and efficiency should be at a high level for a successful operation and the Iran-made product is superior and more efficient than the foreign models,” said Reza Zolqader, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.
“The hot tapping device is used for branching from oil and gas pipelines without the need to stop the fluid flow in explosive conditions which is known as hot tapping operation,” he added.
“In the inner part of the hot tapping device, a retainer has been installed to restrain the end of the shaft and prevent the shaft of the hot tapping device from lagging. This function is very important,” Zolqadr said.
