A team of inventors and researchers at Islamic Azad University (IAU)-Behshahr branch have successfully  produced a mulch from industrial effluents, npurified sea water, and urban wastewater.

A mulch is a layer of material applied to the surface of soil. Reasons for applying mulch include conservation of soil moisture, improving fertility and health of the soil, reducing weed growth and enhancing the visual appeal of the area.

The members of the research team of Behshahr IAU include Head of the team and a professor of the mechanical engineering Meqdad Rahimi Golugahi, Marzieh Sadeghi, the visiting professor, and Navid Yousefi, a mechanical engineering student.

Rahimi, who is the director of the incubator center of the IAU Behshahr university,  has a history of opening several start-ups, has a close relationship with industry and industrial production lines, said in an interview with ANA news agency reporter that extraction of mulch from urban wastewater and polluted water by combined reverse osmosis and ultrasonic method is the name of the project they carried out.

The head of the inventions of Behshahr IAU also noted that the mulch can be uded to fight deforestation, adding that their product is still at the trial phase.
