Iran Conducts Biggest Test to Assess Strength of Concrete Structures
Reinforced concrete shear walls represent a structurally efficient solution to stiffen a building structural system under lateral loads. The main function of a shear wall is to increase the rigidity and strength of the building for lateral resistance.
A test was conducted as the biggest test performed on concrete structures in Iran with the aim of assessing the safety and resistance of those concrete buildings, especially high-rise buildings against earthquakes.
The test program consisted of mechanical tests performed on reinforced concrete walls subjected to alternating shear loads.
The test was conducted at International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology, which is an international earthquake engineering and seismology institute based in Iran’s capital.
According to a report by the Iranian science ministry, the results of the test can be used to enhance the resistance of not very safe buildings in the country.
