Iran-Made Waterproof Nano Polymer Bricks Facilitate Construction of Buildings

TEHRAN (ANA)- A faculty member of Islamic Azad University’s Tabriz branch in Northwestern Iran succeeded in designing and manufacturing fibrous nano polymer bricks for construction of buildings which enjoy waterproof properties.

“The nano-gypsum fiber waterproof panels have been developed based on the state-of-the-art technologies in the world and they enjoy compressive strength of at least 3 mega pascals, with a low density of about 400-550 kg/m3,” said Yousef Zandi, the researcher of the project.

Noting that the polymer bricks enjoy many good features, he said that they do not need plaster and soil, absorb adequate water when used in construction operations and show excellent adhesion with cement and high thermal insulation.

Zandi added that the gypsum nanopolymers are as light as wood and they have special properties like very low density (400 to 550 kg per cubic meter), heat insulation, sound insulation, and greater resistance to freezing and erosion, saying that the use of these gypsum nanopolymers in construction reduces over 30% in construction costs and more than 70% in cooling and heating costs.

In a relevant development earlier this year, the helical pile construction technology was indigenized in Iran thanks to the efforts of specialists of a technological firm stationed at Azadi Innovation Factory.

“Helical pile is a well-known technology in the world and countries like the US and Germany have specific guidelines and regulations for this type of foundation and they have been working on this technology for years,” said Behnam Bidar, the managing director of the company.

He explained that this type of foundation is in the form of a screw and made of steel with a galvanized coating, adding that it has various uses in construction of different buildings like villas and greenhouses, and in manufacturing energy production equipment like solar panels and power transmission towers.

“In this company, we succeeded in production of this foundation which is a type of screw foundation made of metal.

It consists of a tubular shaft with one or more spiral metal plates that transmits the tensile or compressive force of the structure to the ground through the shaft and spiral plates.”
