Iran on Track to Turn into Innovation Hub with 162 Accelerators

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iran has taken long strides towards becoming an innovation hub by creating 223 incubators and launching 162 accelerators.

A startup incubator is a collaborative program for start-ups, usually physically located in a central workspace, that helps startups in their early stages achieve success by providing workspace, seed funding, effective guidance, and training.

The first incubator in Iran was established in 2000. The number of incubators has grown significantly in recent years. Based on figures from the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, the total number of incubators in Iran has reached 223 by 2021.

The total number of accelerators in Iran is estimated to be around 162 as of November 2021. 69% of accelerators in Iran are specialized.

The industrial sectors of specialized accelerators in Iran include agriculture and food industries, information and communication technology (ICT), creative and cultural industries, health and biotechnology, energy and environment, chemical and petrochemical industries, mining and metal industries, electronics and electrical industries, automotive and transportation industries, textile and clothing industries, construction and civil engineering, maritime industries, aerospace industries, and wood and paper industries.
