Iran's Global Innovation Ranking Up 7 Positions in 2023
Director General of the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology for Policy, Planning and Technology Development Affairs Omid Rezayeefar pointed out that Iran has reached the 53rd rank in the world in innovation index in 2023, noting that it shows a seven-step improvement compared to the previous year.
“This innovation index is one of the serious indices in the world and Iran ranked 120th in this field 10 years ago,” he said.
Rezayeefar also underlined that the Science Ministry has 54 science and technology parks and 270 incubator centers and technology units, adding that 112,000 jobs have been created and 7,800 knowledge-based companies are active within this framework.
With seven ranks of promotion compared to the last year, Iran ranks second in the Central and South Asian region and third in low-middle income countries, and for the third consecutive year, the innovation development rate is higher than expected.
Iran is leading in indicators like trademark registration (rank 1) and science and engineering graduates (rank 2). In terms of innovation outputs, Iran has a performance similar to high-income European economies like Latvia (rank 41) and Croatia (rank 42).
Over the few past years, with the support of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, the Iranian house of innovation has been set up in several countries to develop the global market for knowledge-based products.
These centers have already been set up in countries such as Russia, Turkey, China, Syria, Kenya, Iraq, and Armenia.
