Islamic Azad University Sets Up First-Rate University Plant Pathology Clinic
“Among a total of 11 first-rate clinics in the country, the plant pathology clinic of Islamic Azad University’s Bojnourd branch ranks first among the university clinics. It provides valuable services to the agricultural sector in the field of assessment and monitoring the health of certified seedlings,” Abdollah Mohammadi said.
He underlined that these services play a highly important role in protecting the country's food security, adding that the clinic and similar centers have a key role in detection and dealing with various factors which cause damage to agricultural products. The mentioned services ultimately increase agricultural products by applying science and technology.
Plant pathology (also phytopathology) is the scientific study of diseases in plants caused by pathogens (infectious organisms) and environmental conditions (physiological factors).
Organisms that cause infectious disease include fungi, oomycetes, bacteria, viruses, viroids, virus-like organisms, phytoplasmas, protozoa, nematodes and parasitic plants.
However control of plant diseases is crucial to the reliable production of food but it provides significant problems in agricultural use of land, water, fuel and other inputs.
