Iran Home to Largest, Most Powerful Space Telescope in Middle East
The 90-ton optical telescope (INO340) of the Iranian National Observatory enjoys 40,000 parts.
It worth to mention that designing of all the mechanical parts and components of the telescope and the supervision of the construction, from designing to implementation of the telescope control system were carried out in the country by the engineering team of the Iranian National Observatory.
Regarding mirror site and photo quality, INO enjoys unique advantages, so, it is considered as one of the best sites in the world.
The diameter of the telescope's main mirror is 340 cm (3.4 m) and its thickness is 18 cm. This mirror weighs four tons and its surface smoothness is less than two nanometers, which is controlled by an active optics system equipped with 60 linear operator axes.
The field of view of the telescope is 20 minutes of arc and it comprises capability of detecting celestial objects with an accuracy of 0.00005 degrees of arc.
Dome of the telescope is 24 meters high and 16 meters in diameter, and its rotating part weighs 250 tons.
