Researchers in Iran Achieve Technology to Make Light Superabsorbent Layers

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iranian researchers at the University of Tehran succeeded in achieving the technology to manufacture light superabsorbent layers.

“These layers are capable of absorbing the entire visible spectrum of light and display a three-dimensional object in the shape of a two-dimensional black screen by trapping the light,” said Fatemeh Razi Astarayee, an associate professor and a member of the Department of Renewable Energy of the Faculty of Modern Sciences and Technologies, University of Tehran.

She added that light absorption in these layers is not carried out by using any chemical or polymer properties, but by using a type of nano arrangement, explaining that this structure traps the light inside and makes its reflection impossible.

“The absence of light reflection from the object makes its indentations and protrusions invisible. Therefore, this technology can be used to camouflage objects,” Razi Astarayee said.

She noted that it took more than two years to make these layers on smooth but flexible surfaces, adding that the next goal of this project is to make this absorbent layer in liquid form, so that it can be camouflaged by spraying on any 3D surface.
