The center was inaugurated on Thursday, coinciding with World Children’s Day, in a ceremony attended by Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, Health Minister Mohammad-Reza Zafarghandi, and Mohammad Eslami, vice president and head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, along with several Health Ministry officials.

During the visit, Aref and Zafarghandi toured the hospital’s inpatient wards and met with children undergoing treatment and their families.

Speaking at the ceremony, Reza Raeis-Karami, chancellor of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, said the new center could help reduce the financial burden of medical treatment on families.

“Today is an important day ahead of us, because we have two important projects,” Raeis-Karami said, referring to the inauguration of the childhood cancer center and the launch of construction on the 320-bed Amir Alam 2 Hospital.

He described the comprehensive childhood cancer diagnosis and treatment center as a significant milestone for Iran, explaining that services in this field had previously been provided exclusively by private-sector facilities.

“With the opening of this center, the first university-based and public center in the field of childhood cancer treatment begins its activities,” he added.
