Poll: Nearly 60% Say Trump Has ‘Gone Too Far’ with Military Intervention Abroad
A survey from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs found that 56 percent of people say the president has “gone too far” with military operations abroad. Thirty-five percent say his intervention has been “just about right” and 8 percent say he’s “not gone far enough".
Since the start of the second Trump administration, the US has led attacks in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
More recently, the president ordered troops to abduct Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and has appointed US officials to preside over political affairs in the Latin American nation until further notice.
Trump has also eyed taking over Greenland for “national security” purposes, despite broader pushback from the international community.
Sixty-one percent of US adults said they disapprove of the Trump administration’s foreign policy measures, while 37 percent approve.
A majority of Republicans, 71 percent, say Trump’s operations overseas have been “just about right” compared to 18 percent who say he has “gone too far” and 8 percent who say he’s not gone “far enough".
Sixty-three percent of Independents share a dismal outlook on the president’s measures abroad, 21 percent say it’s been just right and 14 percent say he could do more.
A majority of Democrats, 86 percent, disapprove of Trump’s military intervention and 9 percent say he’s been just about right. The AP-NORC poll of 1,203 adults was conducted January 8-11, with a plus or minus 3.9 percentage points margin of sampling error.
