Iranian Students Win Medals at Int’l Scientific Competitions

TEHRAN (ANA)- Two Iranian students from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences won medals at international invention and innovation contests in Switzerland and South Korea.

Sa’eed Nikou, a master’s student in Medical Informatics, received a silver medal at the International Invention and Innovation Competition of the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Nikou won his silver medal for developing an ‘innovative system and device for configuring and selectively disabling physical buttons on input devices’.

He underlined the need for greater support of creative students and stronger collaboration between universities and industry.

Also, Mohaddeseh Sadat Khorashadizadeh, a Ph.D. student in Medical Informatics, secured a bronze medal at the 2025 Korea International Women’s Invention Exposition (KIWIE).

Khorashadizadeh, who has previously won gold and silver medals at IFIA 2024 and 2025 events, underlined the importance of nurturing young innovators, describing participation in such global competitions as a valuable opportunity to showcase ideas on an international stage.

In a relevant development in 2024, a researcher of Islamic Azad University’s Boueen Zahra branch had also won the second place in the 2024 competition of the International Federation of Inventors’ Association (IFIA) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Mehdi Moharrampour won the second place by competing with 1,500 participating inventions from 50 countries.

Moharrampour, who is the managing director of a knowledge-based firm stationed at the growth center of Islamic Azad University’s Boueen Zahra branch, had also won the gold medal of the competition previous year by presenting a smart subsurface irrigation product.

Moharrampour participated in the annual competition last year with his subsurface irrigation product (Fixed Discharge-Rate drip Irrigation Emitter Anti-Clogging Device).

As many as 1,500 inventors who are members of the International Federation of Inventors’ Association (IFIA) INV competed in the online event.

All Moharrampour's inventions that have been achieved with the support and investment of IAU Boueen Zahra university are now in industrial production phase.
