Hatam Mahdavi-Nour, the head of the Islamic Azad University’s department for technical and vocational training, told ANA that six students from the university will attend the competitions.

The Islamic Azad University pays special attention to skill-based education so it has allocated parts of educational programs to training skillful manpower, he added.

In this line, the Islamic Azad University signed a memorandum of understanding in the Iranian calendar year 1399 (March 2020-March 2021) with the Technical and Vocational Training Organization to hold joint training, research, and competition events.

The six students who are going to participate in the international competitions are studying cyber security, web-based management systems, piping and heating, graphic design, and mechanical engineering.

The 46th WorldSkills Competition was originally planned for 2021 and was postponed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Islamic Azad University (IAU) is the third-largest university in the world as far as the enrolment numbers display. It is a non-governmental, nonprofit Iranian higher education provider that has been established in 1982.

To date, some five million students have graduated from the IAU, and currently, 1.7 million students are studying at the university branches.

Over three decades and a half, IAU has ramified into more than 400 branches throughout Iran and four branches abroad, namely in Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and England.
