Iran’s Avicenna Research Institute Finds Way to 5-Fold Livestock Embryo Production
“This technology makes possible the reproduction of superior cows 20 times faster than traditional methods,” said Mohammad Mehdi Naderi.
He explained that by using embryo production technology, over 20 calves can be produced from a superior cow in a year, adding that in the usual method, a cow gives birth to a calf only once a year.
“This technology, which is similar to methods for treating infertility in humans, is actually used for livestock breeding and increases livestock production and efficiency. For instance, cows produced using this method can produce 20 to 35 percent more milk than conventional cows, which will lead to greater profitability for farmers,” Naderi said.
In a relevant development in November, Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company had also produced a veterinary vaginoscope with a hydrophobic antibacterial coating and capability for more rapid and accurate artificial insemination.
The researchers could increase the speed of artificial insemination in large animals by using the ‘Smart V’ device, and due to the presence of nano coating in the device, the risk of disease transmission between humans and animals has been reduced to minimum.
‘Smart V’ is a device for vaginal examination and artificial insemination in large livestock. It has a sensor and a camera that captures the environment of the vagina and displays the images live and wirelessly on mobile phones and other devices. It increases the accuracy and speed of livestock examination.
The device also saves makes it possible to create veterinary medical records online. Among the other advantages of this device are completely elimination of the rectal test or anal examination, and the user’s ability to determine the state of estrus before insemination by testing the cervix and by inserting a special needle into the canal.
The nano coatings of this device reduce the risk of transmission of common diseases from livestock to humans and from livestock to livestock by creating hydrophobic and antibacterial properties.
Increasing accuracy and speed in the process of veterinary examination and online medical filing, removing the rectal swab method, increasing the fertility rate and speed of operation in the artificial insemination process and the high safety factor of the device in terms of the transmission of common diseases between humans and animals are the most important features of this product.
