Iranian Scientists Use Insect Protein Powder to Feed Livestock, Poultry
“We succeeded in breeding a fly called Flan for the livestock and poultry feed to supply their necessary protein without the need for imports,” Mahboubeh Sarabi, the head of the board of directors of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.
“We were able to produce a protein powder to feed the livestock, poultry and aquatic animals by mixing the soldier, Nilborn and house flies, and omit 80% of soybeans from their diet,” she added.
“Our company is the first producer of protein powder by using insects. 10% of this powder can be used in poultry feed, 30% in livestock feed and 50% in aquatic feed,” Sarabi said.
“Insect protein powder strengthens the bones in livestock and increases egg laying in poultry. It also reduces mortality in livestock, poultry and aquatic animals by 90%,” she underlined.
Also, earlier this year, probiotic supplements and yeasts which are among the biotechnological products and considered essential for health were produced by an Iranian knowledge-based company.
“Our company’s activities are focused on production of probiotic supplements, and due to the impossibility of eliminating all harmful bacteria and the resistance created by the use of antibiotics, this knowledge-based company has produced probiotic supplements and yeasts to increase the positive bacteria in the living environment of humans and animals,”said Ahmad Yari Khosroshahi, the managing director of the knowledge-based Gol Sahand Khosro company.
Stressing the important role of probiotics in improving the nutritional health of the society, he said, “Probiotics lead to improved health and reduced consumption of antibiotics.”
“Our company operates in six major livestock fields, including cattle and sheep, poultry, aquatic animals, horses, sheep, goats, and bees. We are trying to improve the breeding of the mentioned animals by using our products,” Yari Khosroshahi noted.
