Iran Building Mobile Mini Reactors for Desalination of Water

One of the advantages of these mini reactors is their use in underdeveloped areas. Latest reports showed that the Iranian knowledge-based companies are focused on building these reactors and are supported by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
The mobile SMR reactors are effective in solving energy and water challenges. This is the first mobile mini reactor which is being built in Iran.
These reactors enjoy the capability to generate electricity and desalinate water in underdeveloped areas, and the AEOI supports their construction project. In addition to reducing costs, this technology makes access to clean energy and fresh water possible in remote areas.
The development of SMR reactors is considered a new step in energy self-sufficiency. These projects not only meet the domestic needs, but also provide the potential for exporting technology to other countries.
SMRs are advanced nuclear reactors that have a power capacity of up to 300 MW(e) per unit, which is about one-third of the generating capacity of traditional nuclear power reactors.
SMRs, which can produce a large amount of low-carbon electricity, are small, physically a fraction of the size of a conventional nuclear power reactor, modular, making it possible for systems and components to be factory-assembled and transported as a unit to a location for installation, and reactors, harnessing nuclear fission to generate heat to produce energy.
