Iran, Venezuela to Establish Joint Science, Technology Park

TEHRAN (ANA)- Officials of University of Tehran (UT) and Venezuela in a meeting agreed to establish a joint science and technology park in the Latin American country.

President of the University of Tehran Seyed Mohammad Moqimi made the remarks in a meeting with a high-ranking Venezuelan academic delegation in Tehran.

"The head of the UT Science and Technology Park will make a feasibility study during his visit to Venezuela in a bid to establish a joint park by the two countries," he said in response to Venezuela's deputy minister of research, science and technology to establish a joint science and technology park.

"We can reach a suitable model to help the technical development of businesses in Venezuela and also provide technical assistance to Iranian investors in Venezuela," Moqimi said.

He also underlined that the University of Tehran welcomes professors from Venezuela to strengthen the Spanish-language department as well as the establishment of master's and doctoral courses in Spanish.

Moqimi said that the first priority of the University of Tehran is to bolster cooperation with friendly countries, adding, "Venezuela is considered as one of Iran's old friends, and in the 13th Iranian government, a special emphasis has been placed on expanding cooperation between Iran and Venezuela in all fields, specially in the field of science diplomacy.”

He pointed to the visits of several delegations from Iraq, Armenia, Georgia and Russia to the University of Tehran’s Science and Technology Park and their request to set up a branch of the park in their countries, saying that the UT is ready to set up a branch of the park in Venezuela too.

Earlier, Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Ali Zolfi Gol had also underlined his country’s preparedness to establish a joint Science and Technology Park in Venezuela.

Zolfi Gol made the remarks in a meeting with Venezuelan Vice-President for Science, Technology, Education, and Health Gabriela Jimenez in Tehran. He added that Iran enjoys valuable experiences in the field of science and technology with 49 science and technology parks and numerous technological and knowledge-based companies.
