Official: Over 710,000 Barrels of Gas Condensates Produced in Iran's South Pars Refineries

Deputy of Site 2 at the South Pars Gas Complex Hassan As’adi underlined production of gas condensate at the refineries of the complex, noting that over 710,000 barrels of gas condensate are produced daily across 13 refineries.
This production fully supplies the feedstock for the Persian Gulf Star Refinery and the Nouri (Borzuyeh) Petrochemical Plant, he added.
As’adi referred to the seven key strategic products of the South Pars Gas Complex, including the daily production of over 595 million cubic meters of sweet gas, saying that since the beginning of this year, over 182 billion cubic meters of sweet gas have been sent from South Pars refineries to the national grid, providing warmth to households during the cold season.
He also said that ethane, another product of the complex, supplies about 45% of the feedstock for petrochemical plants in the South Pars region, adding that other products include propane and butane, which have high added value for the country and are exported daily.
In relevant remarks in February, Gholam Abbas Hosseini, the CEO of the South Pars Gas Complex (SPGC), had also announced that the giant gas field has produced more that two million tons of butane and three million tons of propane in the past ten months.
In the first 10 months of this year, the complex produced over 2 million tons of butane, 3 million tons of propane, 1.5 million tons of ethane, 500,000 tons of granulated sulfur, and more than 201 million barrels of gas condensates, Hosseini said.
He added that 165 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas were injected into the national grid during the first 10 months of this year (March 20, 2024-January 19, 2025), marking a 2% increase compared to the same period last year.
Hosseini stated that employees across the South Pars refineries have mobilized all available resources to ensure maximum and stable gas production during the winter season.
He noted that the complex produces nearly 600 million cubic meters of gas daily.
Hosseini highlighted that the SPGC accounted for 73% of the country’s total gas production, with its 13 refineries playing a pivotal role.
He emphasized the significant impact of the complex’s output on ensuring public comfort, energy security, and economic prosperity.
Hosseini also underscored the complex’s critical role in supplying feedstock to the Persian Gulf Star Refinery, delivering over 127.2 million barrels of gas condensates during the same period. Additionally, nearly 3.5 million barrels of gas condensates were sent to the Nouri Petrochemical Plant.
South Pars is currently divided into 24 standard phases on the Iranian side and is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
