Iran-Made Simulator Reduces Human Errors in Dental Surgeries

TEHRAN (ANA)- A knowledge-based company in Iran has manufactured a medical dental surgery training simulator which can decrease human errors.

“Before the medical student enters the actual surgical stage on the patient, he/she can practice his/her skills on this device to prevent possible errors,” said Fatemeh Goudarzi Moqaddam, the marketing expert of the knowledge-based company.

“This device has been designed to simulate the clinical space for residents and students can realistically experience all surgical steps on the platform of this simulator,” she said.

Noting that all the necessary tools for dental surgery, including turbines, mirrors, and pedals, have been simulated in this device, Goudarzi Moqaddam said, “This device provides universities with the opportunity to complete surgical training courses, in such a way that at the end of the course, this system gives students a score and the students become aware of their errors.”

In a relevant development in December, a knowledge-based company in Iran had also produced a dental fiber post that enjoys high competitive advantages compared to imported products.

Atrak Besparfan company has launched the production line of its composite fiber post products under the brand name of AtraPost which consists of a polymer matrix made of epoxy and glass reinforcing fibers. In these posts the glass fibers are stretched in the longitudinal direction using the pultrusion method. AtraPost includes a thin stainless steel rod that makes it easier to see the post in radiographic images.

The company also produces dental adhesive which is used in dentistry to adhere veneers to prevent them from loosening and separating. These adhesives contribute significantly to the better performance of the veneer by increasing its strength and stability.

In another development in January, a company in Iran had also succeeded in manufacturing nanocomposite dental cement based on zinc phosphate with high anti-corrosion and antibacterial properties for tooth restoration.

“Nanocomposites are the latest generation of dental composites that enjoy higher strength and resistance than other composites,” Nazanin Farhadyar, the managing director of the knowledge-based ‘Nano Pouyesh Yekta Nano’ company, told ANA.

“Conventional non-nano zinc phosphate cements are not antibacterial and are less hard than other cements due to their low thickness, but the nano zinc phosphate composite made in our company has high anti-bacterial and anti-corrosion properties and is used as a dental cement for orthodontics, bridges and restoration,” she added.

Development and production of nano materials, different types of special and custom nano catalysts, nano absorbents, nano fibers, natural polymer nano capsules, and metal nano oxides, and holding specialized courses in the field of commercialization of nano products, start-up of new nano technologies and safety of nano materials are other activities of the knowledge-based company.
