Iranian Scientist Constructs Device to Produce Fresh Water by Using Solar Energy

TEHRAN (ANA)- Mostafa Shafiqzadeh, an Iranian student of Islamic Azad University’s Torbat Heydarieh branch won a gold medal from the Federation of Top European Inventors by inventing a device for producing fresh water by using the solar energy.

“The device for production of fresh water by using the solar energy can be made in different dimensions. The prototype of the device is one meter long, 50 cm wide and 70 cm high, which can produce 150 liters of water daily (from sunrise to sunset),” Shafiqzadeh told ANA.

“This device obviates the country's water shortage and works exactly like a well with a water engine,” he added.

Shafiqzadeh explained that for better and higher water quality, the device should be used in desert and dry areas.

In a relevant development in September, Iranian researchers at a knowledge-based company had also succeeded in making a water desalination system by using solar energy which can produce fresh and hot water.

“This device is designed to be portable and it can supply the necessary energy to carry out the processes through solar cells,” Milad Qahremani, one of the managers of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

“There are a series of devices in this PVT complex that, in addition to generating electricity they produce hot water; the hot water that passes behind the panels increases the efficiency of the panels, produces more electricity and supplies hot water to the consumers,” he added.

Qahremani explained that the device is capable of producing 400 liters of fresh water per hour.
