Iran to Launch Center for Studying Primates
“In this center more work will be done on artificial and natural intelligence, cognitive science and robotics,” Moslemi Nayeeni told ANA.
Noting that the center will attract domestic and foreign researchers, he said, “Some Iranian researchers abroad are interested in working in the country; Iranian researchers living abroad can conduct their research in this center, and this is a good opportunity to attract domestic and foreign researchers.”
“The center is considered a place to benefit from the scientific ability of Iranians living abroad. Scientists and people abroad have also requested to cooperate with this center to advance their work in various fields,” Moslemi Nayeeni said.
“This center is supported by experts from different universities and Royan Research Institute, and we hope that this work will be completed by the end of this year,” he added.
A primate is any mammal of the group that includes lemurs, lorises, tarsiers, monkeys, apes, and humans. The order Primates, with its 300 or more species, is the third most diverse order of mammals, after rodents and bats.
There are now only about 20 living species of apes and they are divided into two major groups. These are the Lesser Apes, containing the gibbons. Great Apes, containing the orang-utans, gorillas, chimpanzees and humans.
