“This idea has been presented in the field of architectural engineering, civil engineering, industrial design and construction and production to use modern techniques and beautify urban areas and people's usability,” Elham Mohammadi told ANA.

“The function of this chair is very optimal and with a high safety factor, and it is folded with the art of origami and has a beautiful appearance,” she added.

Noting that a normal cardboard sheet has been used to make the chair, Mohammadi said that relevant tests on the chair showed that the 40x40 single cardboard chair was able to withstand a load of 580kg.

“Also, the 40 x 80 double cardboard chair could support 700 kg, according to the approval of Islamic Azad University’s Shahroud branch,” she added.

Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding. In modern usage, the word "origami" is often used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin.

The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques.

Modern origami practitioners generally discourage the use of cuts, glue, or markings on the paper.
