Director-General of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran for Technical-Engineering Services and Knowledge-based Products Office Mohammad Reza Karimzadeh stated that Iran’s exports of the technical and engineering services registered an 18 percent growth between March 21 to July 22, 2024 compared to the same period last year.

He added that 18 certificates were approved for exporting the technical and engineering services overseas.

Karimzadeh put the value of the technical and engineering services exported from Iran to other countries from March 21 to July 22, 2024 at $200 million, saying that it shows an 18% growth compared to the last year’s corresponding period.

The technical and engineering services refer to the sectors including tourism, health tourism, creative industries, road, sea, rail and air transit and also knowledge-based products.

He put the value of the aforementioned products exported from the country overseas last year (from March 21, 2023 to March 20, 2024) at $15.6 billion.

In relevant remarks in July, Iranian Vice-President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy Rouhollah Dehqani Firouzabadi had also announced that the country has taken long strides in exporting the knowledge-based products.

“We have experienced 9-fold growth in knowledge-based exports and 4-fold growth in knowledge-based export companies in the 13th government (of the late President Rayeesi),” Dehqani Firouzabadi said.

He also announced the return of over 3,400 researchers to Iran, with more than 1,400 returning in the last three years alone.

The official reported a dramatic increase in the sales of knowledge-based companies, which have surged by 225 percent, reaching 530 trillion rials this year, adding that the oil ministry has also seen a more than 4.7-fold increase in first-time contracts, highlighting the expanding opportunities and ventures within the sector.

“The private sector’s investment in the knowledge-based field has doubled, showcasing a robust commitment to advancing technological and scientific initiatives,” Dehqani Firouzabadi stated.

He reported that export figures have risen from $296 million to an impressive $2.52 billion last year, adding that the number of exporting companies has quadrupled, and the variety of exported products has doubled, indicating a strong and diverse international market presence.

Dehqani Firouzabadi stressed that these accomplishments reflect a strategic shift in the country’s approach to fostering a knowledge-based economy, saying, “The focus on enhancing both domestic and international market presence is paving the way for Iran to become a significant player in the global knowledge-based economy.”
