Official: Iran Exports Furniture to Neighbors, African States
“Iraq, Afghanistan, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, Tajikistan, Armenia, Kazakhstan and a number of African countries are among the export destinations of Iranian furniture,” Ahmadian said.
“We want to increase the exports of our furniture to $500 million in two years,” he added.
Noting that $70 million of all types of furniture were exported last year, Ahmadian said that over $15 million worth of furniture was exported from the country in the third quarter of this year.
“There is a good potential in the furniture production sector to increase the exports,” he said.
The financial turnover of the furniture industry in Iran is more than $8 billion, and due to job creation and high added value, it is considered one of the valuable industries, Ahmadian said.
The official had last year underlined that over 80,000 industrial, guild, and service units operate in the furniture industry and this industry accounts for more than eight percent of the industrial employment in the country.
He said his union had been trying to promote the domestic production of furniture in the country and prevent the imports of such products in order to support local manufacturers.
