Canadian International Merchandise Trade Increases
The country's total exports rose to 64.4 billion Canadian dollars (47.1 billion U.S. dollars) in April, following a 5.2 percent drop in March and a 5.4 percent increase in February, the national statistical agency said.
In real, or volume, terms, Canada's total exports were up 1.7 percent in April.
After falling 1 percent in March, the country's total imports increased to 65.5 billion Canadian dollars (47.9 billion U.S. dollars), a level similar to the one observed in February. However, in real, or volume, terms, total imports edged down 0.2 percent.
When international trade in goods and services are combined, exports increased 2 percent to 81.4 billion Canadian dollars (59.6 billion U.S. dollars) in April, while imports rose 1.1 percent to 83.5 billion Canadian dollars (61.1 billion U.S. dollars). As a result, Canada's total trade deficit with the world narrowed in April, said Statistics Canada.
