Iranian Technologists Indigenize Negative Pressure Wound Therapy

TEHRAN (ANA)- Experts at a technological company, located at Islamic Azad University's Khomeyni Shahr Branch, have managed to domestically develop the negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT).

Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is a broad term used to describe a unique and versatile system that aids the optimization of wound healing through the application of sub-atmospheric pressure to help reduce inflammatory exudate and promote granulation tissue.

“Wound vacuum therapy device is used to treat acute and infectious wounds, amputation wounds, diabetic wounds, bedsores, etc.,” said Alireza Rafiei Nasab, the manager of a technology unit at Islamic Azad University's Khomeyni Shahr Branch.

“Holding workshops with a focus on teaching vacuum therapy method in treating wounds, holding special classes and training courses for doctors and nurses in collaboration with the Institute of Applied Science Technology Jahad Daneshgahi's medical sciences branch aimed at teaching various wound treatment methods are other uses of the vacuum therapy device,” Rafiei Nasab added.

The manager of the technology unit further said that he and his teammates opened the unit named "Kian Vorna Equipment" in December 2020, adding, “This technology unit has already succeeded in receiving a production license for the vacuum therapy device and related accessories from the Iran Food and Drug Administration (IFDA).”

He furthur acknowledged that they received support both financially and technologically from government bodies and Islamic Azad University in carrying out their projects, addign, "New medical products, creating markets related to it, and laying the basis for communication with neighboring countries in line with the new activities of this technology unit are on the agenda.”
