Iran’s Islamic Azad University, China’s Nanjing University to Expand Cooperation

TEHRAN (ANA)- Officials of the Islamic Azad University’s Kermanshah branch in the Western part of Iran and Nanjing University in China in a virtual meeting discussed ways to develop cooperation in the scientific field.

“The meeting was held in line with implementation of the document on development of the university to expand the scientific, educational and research cooperation with prestigious universities of the world,” Morteza Kahrarian, the vice-president of Research and Technology Department of Islamic Azad University’s Kermanshah branch, told ANA.

“It was the first joint meeting of the two universities in which the interests of both parties in different research areas were studied and it was decided that both parties present their proposals to sign a cooperation agreement,” he added.

Kahrarian noted that Nanjing University of China was establishment in 1902, and it is one of the comprehensive universities of China that operates directly under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and Research of the country, adding that it has ranked 141 in the world in 2024 in the QS ranking.

In a relevant development earlier this year, the caretaker head of the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP) said that the Chinese institute established a research center in the Northern Iranian city of Gorgan to study and understand the processes and impacts of climate, ecology, environmental changes and civilization evolution in the West Asian region.

The caretaker head of the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP) which is a Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) or ITCAS, Professor Xuliang Zhuang made the remarks in his address to the 3rd International Conference on Quaternary Sciences. The conference was held at the venue of the Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration of Iran in Tehran on January 29.

Stating that during the last two decades, the Chinese institute has made significant achievements and progress, he added. "We have established long-term cooperation with our Iranian partners, so that in 2019, the ITCAS West Asia Center was founded in Gorgan [in the Northern part of Iran]."

 “The Gorgan-based ITCAS West Asia Center was launched to lay the ground for promoting international cooperation and interdisciplinary studies to understand the processes and impacts of climate, ecology, environmental changes and civilization evolution in the West Asian region,” he added.
