Iran Imports over 26.5 Tons of Gold Ingot in 11 Months
The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) announced that gold ingot imports accounted for 2.85 percent of the country’s total import value in this timespan.
Gold ingot imports were the 4th major goods imported into the country in the said period.
In this period, 72.15 percent of gold ingots were imported into the country via the Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) Customs Office while Bashmaq and Tabriz customs offices ranked second and third with 18 percent and 7.37 percent of gold ingot imports, respectively, IRICA concluded.
Iran's customs figures showed in January that a total of 1.6 billion worth of gold bars were imported into the country in the first 10 months of the current Iranian calendar year.
“Iran imported a total of 24.5 tons of gold bars, worth $1.6 billion, during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024),” said Mohammad Rezvanifar, the director general of the IRICA.
Rezvanifar, who is also Iran’s deputy economy minister, further said that in month of Dey of this year (December 20, 2023 through January 20, 2024), 5.4 tons of gold bars worth $352 million were imported into the country.
Meanwhile, Rezvanifar said that in the month of Dey last year of 1401 in the Iranian calendar, gold bars purchase was only 176 kg valued at $9 million.
