The first international conference and exhibition of Iran PETROCHEM kicked off on Kish Island on Tuesday, February13 and will end on15 February with the slogan of supporting the knowledge-based production in the petrochemical, refining and petro-refining industry.

“In this exhibition, companies, petrochemicals and their subgroups, and petrochemicals and refineries of other holdings, are present,” said Akbar Zamanian, the secretary of the knowledge-based economy development department of the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy.

He explained that in this exhibition a 120-meter booth which belongs to the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy has been provided to 10 knowledge-based companies active in the field of energy and petrochemical industry and refineries to present their latest products.

“On the sidelines of the exhibition, various specialized panels related to the oil, gas, petrochemical and energy industries will also be held,” Zamanian said.

Secretary General of Iran's Association of Petrochemical Industry Corporation (APIC) Ahmad Mahdavi Abhari announced in January that the country’s petrochemical industry has brought $61 billion in the past 5 years.

Mahdavi Abhari said that the petrochemical industry has also supplied 27 million tons of raw materials worth $26 billion to the downstream sector and 11 million tons of fertilizers to the agricultural sector since 2018.

He described the petrochemical industry as the locomotive of Iran’s economy, stressing that the industry has a great capacity for development, production, and exports.

The petrochemical sector’s revenues in the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20, 2023) reached $16 billion and its output in the first eight months of the current Persian calendar year increased 8%.

The National Petrochemical Company (NPC) managing-director Morteza Shamirzayee announced in October that Iran’s petrochemical production will reach around 78 million tons by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 19, 2024).

He added that the output targeted for the first six months (March 21-September 22, 2023) has been materialized as more than 35 million tons of petrochemicals were produced during the period.
