Iranian Scientist Studies Removal of Organic Pollutants with Nanocrystals

TEHRAN (ANA)- An Iranian researcher in the field of experimental physics and an associate professor of Damqan University in a research project succeeded in studying the possibility of removing organic pollutants with the help of nanocrystals.

“As a soft magnetic material, magnetite has a high Curie temperature and almost perfect spin order at room temperature. On the other hand, the growing trend of colored wastewater from various industries like textiles, printing, food and cosmetics is a great threat to humans and the environment due to its toxicity and non-degradability,” said Ahmad Qolizadeh, a PhD graduate in physics (experimental solid state).

“Methods like absorption and chemical oxidation have been used to remove colors in water environments, and compared to other methods, oxidation has received more attention due to its capability to destroy organic pollutants and convert them into inorganic compounds,” he added.

“In this research, we focused on the low temperature fabrication of ferrites to obtain materials with critical grain size and good magnetic properties to create special nanomaterials with new elemental ratios for use in MLCI and MLCC electronic components and the transfer of drugs by magnetic method,” Qolizadeh said.

In a relevant development in December, specialists at a knowledge-based company in Iran had also improved the absorption and effectiveness of supplements by using nanoliposome technology.

“Among the knowledge-based products of our company, we can mention pharmaceutical products and liposomal nutritional supplements, including homosomal iron drops, liposomal vitamin D, and immunosome,” said Farnaz Mirzazadeh, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.

“This supplement consists of liposomes with two phospholipid layers in a matrix of sucrose ester, which, in addition to more stabilization, provides more complete absorption of salts and vitamins through different mechanisms. Also, this product has minimized the side effects caused by calcium salt and its absorption interactions with other substances,” she said.

Mirzazadeh also referred to the production of homosome plus syrup, saying, “This food supplement contains iron, folic acid and vitamin B12 in the form of sucroliposomal particles. This product is used to treat iron deficiency anemia in children and adults.”

Noting that the product does not change the color of teeth, she said, “Its formulation contains particles that have nanoliposomes of sunflower lecithin with dimensions less than 100 nm, which are stabilized by a matrix of sucrose ester and starch, and it increases the possibility of more complete absorption, more effectiveness and less side effects by iron, vitamins B12 and folic acid.”
