Iran Launches Offshore Pipeline of South Pars Field’s Phase 16
The launching ceremony started upon an order by Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji via videoconference.
The offshore gas platform and installations and other onshore facilities of the Phase 16 had started work on October 12, 2023 after receiving gas from its block following the precommissioning and commissioning operations and preliminary and final tests of the new offshore pipeline of SP Phase 16.
With a goal of starting early production before this winter, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) paved the way for producing 28 million cubic meters of gas per day after taking the safety measures to protect the old offshore pipeline and connecting the new one to the existing onshore pipeline.
The Phase 16 of the giant South Pars Gas Field in Southern Iran was back on track in April 2022 as its damaged pipeline was fixed after four months.
A 32-inch pipeline pumps lies under the seabed which pumps sour gas from the offshore platform to the onshore refineries.
The pipeline started leaking late in December 2021 which had caused the platform to stop producing.
