Iran, Tajikistan to Inaugurate Joint Innovation Center

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iran and Tajikistan inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a joint innovation and technology center.

The MoU was signed by Iranian Vice-President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy Rouhollah Dehqani and Chairman of the National Assembly of Tajikistan and Mayor of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali aimed at fostering scientific and technical cooperation between the two countries and expanding relations in the fields of technology and knowledge-based economy.

The signing ceremony took place at Iran House of Innovation and Technology of which Emomali had a visit during his official trip to Iran.

In a relevant development last January, high-ranking Iranian and Tajik officials in a meeting in Tehran had underlined the need for the further development of scientific cooperation between the two neighbors.

During the meeting, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for International Affairs Vahid Haddadi Asl and Head of Tajikistan Academy of Sciences Farhad Rahim in a meeting agreed on the need to broaden mutual scientific cooperation.

They also stressed the need for strengthening scientific relations between the faculty members and researchers of the two countries' universities, implementing joint scientific projects and formation of a joint scientific cooperation committee the near future.

For his part, Haddadi Asl, described the common languages and religions of the two countries as well as geographical proximity as elements to deepen mutual cooperation, saying that cooperation in the field of exchanging university students and providing opportunities for higher education studies for both sides' students were agreed in a recent meeting between the Iranian and Tajik officials.

"It was also agreed that faculty members of the two countries’ universities will be exchanged and their presence in scientific projects and seminars will be more frequently facilitated," he added.

During the meeting, Rahim said that his country is enthusiastically waiting for broader scientific cooperation with Iran.

"In recent years that I was the deputy science minister of Tajikistan I visited several Iranian universities and research centers and I am well aware of the scientific progress in different fields in Iran," he added.
