Aliakbar Safaei made the remarks in a meeting with Narek Teryan, Deputy Minister of Economy of Republic of Armenia and Economic Attaché of Armenia in Iran, which was held at PMO compound in Tehran.

In the meeting, Safaei noted that the President Ebrahim Raeisi’s administration has insisted on expansion of trade and economic ties with neighboring countries and in line with that goal, Armenia, as a neighbor, has a special place in Iran’s trade strategies.

Noting that Iran's seaborne trade has grown by 9% in the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21) in comparison to the previous year, he added that, the PMO welcomes any bilateral agreement between Iran and Armenia in the maritime and port fields.

“Any tripartite cooperation between Iran, India and Armenia in Chabahar port is approved by the PMO which is taking steps towards materializing the proposed trilateral cooperation by reviewing the proposals,” the CEO added.

Later in the meeting, the PMO deputy head Jalil Eslami said that Iran's ports have 250 million tons of loading and unloading capacity and stressed, “The PMO is ready to implement any operational and executive proposal from the Armenian government in Chabahar port.”

Narek Teryan, for his part, said, "We are ready for any cooperation with Iran in the form of memorandums and agreements.

Armenia’s deputy economy minister further proposed to hold a tripartite meeting between Iran, India and Armenia to discuss cooperation in Shahid Beheshti port in the Southeastern Iranian port city of Chabahar.

He further emphasized that it is important for Armenia to be able to use the capacities and potentials of Chabahar port in the best way as part of the International North–South Transport Corridor.”
