Iranian Company Makes Nano-Based Separators to Prevent Fire in Lithium Batteries
The knowledge-based Nanoguard company was able to provide the ground for reducing the accidents caused by the increase in battery temperature by developing the technology of making separators for lithium batteries that are compatible with the environment.
“Nanoguard separators are designed in a way that by reducing the number of layers of the cell core, it increases the speed of the assembly process of battery cells. The drying temperature of the battery core with Nanoguard separator before electrolyte injection can be high and it reduces the drying time,” said Omid Javadi, the managing-director of the company.
“Also, the electrolyte absorption speed of this separator is high which reduces the battery cell preparation time.
All this will lead to a reduction in production cost and an increase in battery cell production speed,” he added.
Noting that one of the most important features of the Iran-made isolator is to reduce the cost of tube production, increase the lifespan and safety, and improve the performance of the battery, Javadi said, “The specialists of our company are trying to upgrade the product from the pilot line to industrial production, and in the near future, the production capacity of this product will increase to 30 to 50 million square meters per year.”
In a relevant development in October, Iranian researchers succeeded in designing lithium-ion batteries which are one of the most common energy storage tools in electric cars.
“In a bid to help the country gain self-sufficiency in the field of lithium-ion battery cells that can be used in electric vehicles, we succeeded in designing and manufacturing the first battery cell in the country,” Ahmad Soleimani, a commercialization expert of Iran Space Research Center, told ANA.
“These batteries are designed with a capacity of 15 ampere-hour, an energy density of 168 watts per kilogram and a weight of 320 grams,” he added.
Soleimani described the ability to charge and discharge quickly, long life, high efficiency, low weight and low self-discharge as operational features of the lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles.
“Lithium-ion batteries provide users with the possibility of being used in electric vehicle battery packs, validation of imported cells using the supplied equipment, and a suitable platform for the development of lithium-ion batteries,” he added.
