Official: 100% of Antibiotic Production Process Done in Iran
Ahmad Mousavi, the CEO of Antibiotic Sazi Iran Company (ASICO), said that more than 50% of the country's production of effective pharmaceutical materials is done in the Social Security Organization’s Pharmaceutical Holding, and announced the end of Iran’s dependency on the import of the effective material to produce antibiotics with its domestic production inside the company.
He said that they produce five different types of antibiotic products in the ASICO.
“The main products of this company are the antibiotic raw materials needed in the country. The four main materials are amoxicillin, cephalexin, cefixime, and azithromycin. We also produce effective materials of ampicillin, but its consumption has decreased. Totally, there are five materials that we produce for antibiotic products,” he added.
“The production capacity of this company is 900 tons per year of amoxicillin, 250 tons of cefixime and cephalexin, and more than 100 tons of azithromycin,” Mousavi added.
The ASICO CEO further said that considering the high demand for their products inside the country, they have had no plans for exporting their products so far, adding that Cuba, which is major producer of medicine, had requested the Iran-made products.
He went to stress that their products are of high quality that can match foreign-made high-quality products.
