“Isfahan Petro-Refining Holding started to modify its products several years ago in accordance with the world's industries for the development of refining products and updating the standards and put the modification of its gasoline product on the agenda,” Mohsen Qadiri said.

“We succeeded in making our gasoline product with sulfur below 10 ppm, 35% aromatics and less than 1% benzene,” he added.

“We brought the amount of sulfur from 10,000 ppm to less than 10 ppm after construction of the vital diesel refining unit with the Iranian catalyst,” Qadiri said.

“The Iranian catalyst used in this unit has reduced the amount of sulfur even to 5 ppm and the capacity of this unit has increased from 16 million liters per day to 20 million liters per day,” he noted.

Qadiri had underlined in May that development projects were underway to increase the complexity of Isfahan Oil Refinery in the central Isfahan Province to 12.6, as it seeks to become a top petro-refining company in the region by 2027.

“The planned complexity of 12.6 for the refinery will be the highest in the region,” he added.

Complexity is a quantitative measure of how much high-value conversion capacity a refinery has installed relative to its distillation capacity. A complex refinery is one with a large number of high-value conversion units.
