According to global studies and assessments, Iran is among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of carbon, greenhouse gas and sulfur dioxide production (sixth carbon producer), while it ranks 43rd in terms of carbon sequestration and measures taken in this field.

In this regard, countries have committed to planting trees to reduce the volume of carbon production; because China is supposed to plant 80 billion seedlings, Saudi Arabia 50 billion, Afghanistan 1 billion and so on.

Iran has also committed to plant one billion saplings within a period of 4 years.

Abbasali Nobakht, the head of Iran’s Natural Resources and Watershed Management Organization, said in the 48th meeting to discuss of the nationwide plan to urge people to plant one billion saplings that the production of saplings has started since the previous year and program will be launched on 16th of Azar (7th of September).

“But the production stage is only 20% of the work, 10% is related to planting and 70% of the campaign is related to the maintenance of these saplings and trees. There are shortages in equipment such as irrigation tools. After the negotiations with the director of the country's Crisis Management, we panned letters to the minister of the interior so that funds will be allocated by the ministry in the form of the country's crisis plan,” he said.
