Iran Exports over 21k Tons of Pomegranates
Iran exported more than 21,285 tons of pomegranates to 21 countries last year, showing 20% and 12% percent hike in weight and value respectively compared to a year earlier, according to a report by the office for studying, monitoring and commercial development of the Central Organization of Rural Cooperatives of Iran.
Over 21,285 tons of fresh pomegranates, valued at $8,553,516, were exported from Iran.
Pakistan imported 8,066 tons of fresh Iranian pomegranates, valued at over $3 million, in 2022, becoming Iran’s first export target market, followed by Iraq, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, South Korea, Russia, Qatar, the UAE and Belarus respectively.
In the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21), 347 tons of fresh pomegranates, valued at $154,911, were exported from Iran to neighboring Iraq, Pakistan, Kuwait, Turkmenistan, the UAE and Oman, the report added.
Pomegranate is native to Iran and eastward up to north India. It is extensively cultivated in the most provinces of Iran, with various colors, sizes, and flavors.
