Production of Antibacterial Polyester Yarn in Iran by Using Nanotechnology
Polyester fibers enjoy high strength, low water absorption and minimal water loss compared to other industrial fibers and are widely used in the clothing industry.
Polymeric materials can easily be contaminated by bacteria or fungi which leads to the transmission of diseases and severe infections. Preventing the contamination of the surface of these materials by microbes can be done by using an active antibacterial agent like nanoparticles in their structure.
According to the researchers of the company that has produced the antibacterial yarns, using silver nanoparticles in the yarn production process causes them to be trapped in the body of the yarn and creates antibacterial properties with good durability.
In a relevant development in July, an Iranian company had also used metal oxide nanoparticles to produce a new type of polyester fiber used in textile industry.
‘Kian Behris Mahyar’ company has made the antibacterial polyester fiber in which metal and metal oxide nanoparticles are embedded to make the fabricated socks and other clothes antibacterial and longer-lasting.
The addition of the nanoparticles to the polyester fibers has led to the emergence of antibacterial property and production of more durable fabricated clothing.
