Iranian Researchers Achieve Technology to Produce Super-Hydrophobic Paints, Transparent Nanocoating

TEHRAN (ANA)- A knowledge-based company in Iran achieved the technology for production of super-hydrophobic paint and transparent nanocoating.

The paints and coatings produced by the company enjoy unique stability against atmospheric factors, environmental humidity and UV rays and have high self-cleaning properties.

“Our team has had a record of extensive research in the field of paint and has recently been able to formulate and produce super-hydrophobic paint and coating,” said Nima Haqshenas, the chairman of the board of directors of the knowledge-based company.

“Due to its super-hydrophobicity (the contact angle of the droplet is over 150 degrees), the paint and nanocoating has a unique stability against atmospheric factors, environmental humidity and UV rays, and it enjoys a high self-cleaning property, and pollution and dirt do not remain on the facade surface,” he added.

Haqshenas noted that the paint and nanocoating produced by the company are highly adhesive to plaster, cement, concrete, brick, metal and cement board surfaces which makes them perfectly suitable for painting and protecting all types of external elements of the building.

“The most common product of our company is the building facade paint with super water repellency. Unlike similar products in the market, the product has certain new properties. The first feature is that the paint can act as a thermal insulator and prevent energy wastage and has self-cleaning and super-hydrophobic properties. This feature is based on nanotechnology and the US and British competitors have not yet achieved,” he added.

“The second product of our company is a nanocoating with super-hydrophobic features which keeps the original texture of the materials without changing the color and shape and at the same time creates self-cleaning features. Also, the product is anti-dandruff and anti-rotting,” Haqshenas said.

“Another product of our company is a fire-resistant paint which is different from all similar products in the market because it has anti-corrosion properties in addition to being super-hydrophobic,” he concluded.

In a relevant development in July, researchers at an Iranian company had used nanotechnology to produce heat-insulating and sound-absorbing paint.

‘Nilifam Rey’ company has made the acrylic resin-based paint with a high capability to insulate heat and absorb acoustic waves within the range of 400-1000 Hz.

Appling a limited thickness of the paint on any substrate can effectively attenuate the disturbing sounds in the surrounding environment.

The exploitation of nanoparticles in the paint formulation has resulted in preventing the heat transfer and reflection and deviation of acoustic waves.

The nano-based paint can be used in apartments and residential buildings, pipes, thermal chimneys, wagons, aircrafts, ships and construction equipment.
