Iran’s Exports of Agricultural, Food Products Up 19% in 5 Months

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iran exported $1.998 billion worth of crops and farming products in the first five months of the current Iranian year (started on March 21), showing a 19% increase compared to the same period last year, an official said.

During the first five months of Iranian year, $1.998 billion worth of fishery, livestock, agricultural and food products were exported, said Rouhollah Latifi, the caretaker of the department of monitoring and foreign trade of the central organization for rural cooperative of Iran.

"Of this amount, $1.680 billion have been exported to 15 neighboring countries,” he added. 

Latifi said that Iraq was the first export destination of Iran's food and agriculture products, with  $729.607 million, which accounted for 37% of the total agricultural and farming exports.

He added that the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Pakistan and Afghanistan were the second to fifth export destinations in Iran's agricultural, food, livestock and fishery products in the first five months of the year.

Latifi named Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Qatar, Oman, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia as other export destinations of Iran. 

The exports destination of Iran's agricultural, food, livestock and fishery products outside the neighboring countries in the first five months of the year included Germany, Canada, England and France, Latifi said. 

A senior Iranian customs official announced in August that the country had exported $47.5mln worth of goods to four European countries in spring.

$47.5mln worth of Iran-made commodities were exported to Spain, Italy, France and the Netherlands in the first three months of the current Persian calendar year (started on March 21), said Omid Golzari, the Director General of the International Customs Cooperation Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He added that the country’s exported goods to Spain include saffron, pistachios, pistachio nuts, polyethylene, industrial hot water boilers, foundry products and radiators, adding that the value of Iran’s exports to Spain in the first three months of this year was recorded at $16mln.

Golzari explained that Iran’s main exported products to Italy include foundry products, leather, saffron and pistachio nuts, noting that the value of Iran’s exports to Italy in the first three months of this year stood at $18.5mln.

Elaborating on the exports of Iranian goods to France, he said, “Our main exports to France include saffron, dried grapes, pistachio nuts and marble, and the value of Iran’s export goods to France in the three months of this year was $2mln.”
