Iran, Malaysia Discuss Expanding ICT Cooperation

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Malaysia's minister of foreign affairs explored ways to develop relations in the ICT field.

The Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Eisa Zarepour, who is also the head of the Iran-Malaysia Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, held a meeting with the visiting Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir and his accompanying delegation in Tehran on Monday, August 21, 2023.

The Iranian ICT Ministry is in charge of Iran’s economic relations with Malaysia and follows up on the holding of the ninth meeting of the joint economic commission between the two countries.

Holding of the meeting of the Iran-Malaysia economic commission between the two countries was delayed over the past few years, but since  August 2021 the relations between the two countries have returned to right path as a result of which the ninth meeting of the joint commission is to be held in the near future.

Today's meeting of the head of Iran-Malaysia Economic Commission was held within the framework of follow-ups on the development of economic relations and coordinating the ninth meeting of the Joint Commission. 

Zarepour discussed with the top Malaysian diplomat about the development of relations between the two countries in the field of ICT and the following up on the finalization of the joint cooperation document, which is now in Malaysian Ministry of Communications and Digital for some amendments.

Given the importance of communication and information technology in today's world and its increasing role in the digital transformation and digital economy, Zarepour and Abdul Kadir stressed the existence of a lot of fields for cooperation between the two countries. 

The Iranian ICT minister not only chairs the Iran-Malaysia Joint Economic Commission, he is also the head of the Iran-Indonesia and Iran-Philippines economic commissions.
