“Our company has succeeded in producing coated cotton seeds that are available to the farmers at one-third of the price of similar imported products. This will eliminate the need for the country to import cotton seeds,” said Mohsen Fathi, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.

“Seed coating is one of the most important economic methods to improve seed performance. In the seed coating process, materials like fungicides, insecticides, immunostimulants, growth hormones, low-consumption elements, and other compounds are directly applied to the seed,” he added.

Fathi explained that the direct use of fungicides and insecticides directly on the seeds reduces the consumption of these substances at the beginning of the growing season and reduces their environmental risks.

“Also, seed coating causes uniformity in seed size and facilitates mechanical planting of seeds. This causes uniform and better green fields, and as a result, the yield and income of farmers increase,” he added.

In a relevant development in December, another knowledge-based company in Iran had also succeeded in producing and supplying hybrid sugar beet seeds with a price less than half of the foreign samples.

“The main mission of our company is to produce hybrid sugar beet seeds,” Majid Valadan, the managing director of the knowledge-based company, told ANA.

“At present, we produce and market 10 varieties of hybrid sugar beet seeds, and in our first mission we have achieved great success in this way,” he added.

Noting that Iran is now self-sufficient in this regard and also enjoys the capability to export, Valadan said, “Production of hybrid vegetable and summer seeds has been the second mission of our knowledge-based company, which produces 9 products and 37 varieties of seeds, including tomato and cucumber seeds.”

“We also produce seeds of pumpkin, eggplant, melon and other vegetable and summer items,” he added.
