Iran Inaugurates First Pharmaceutical Innovation Plant

TEHRAN (ANA)- Iran’s first pharmaceutical innovation plant was inaugurated in the Northwestern city of Tabriz with the aim of settling problems and responding to the technological and innovation needs of the pharmaceutical industry.

In this innovation plant which was opened in the presence of Iranian Vice-President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy Rouhollah Dehghani, technological and problem-oriented units are formed by the elite students of universities and they settle the industrial problems under the guidance of professors and specialists.

Answers to the country’s needs are presented in the form of a proposal by the innovative units, and implementation of these plans is followed up in a 9-month process until turning into a pharmaceutical product.

These products will be contracted either by the plant or by the pharmaceutical company.

Four major pharmaceutical companies have established their technological development units in the pharmaceutical innovation plant of Tabriz to respond to the problems in this field with the help of technological and innovative teams.

Among the technological products of the innovative units located in the innovation plant, mention can be made of the production of cell and tissue culture containers, dissection table and virtual anatomy, coolers, absorbable hemostat sponges for quick blood clotting, etc.

In December, the Incubator Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences unveiled 60 new pharmaceutical products in a ceremony participated by Iranian Health Minister Bahram Einollahi.

Addressing the ceremony, Seyed Hamid Khoyee, the head of the Incubator Center for the Development of Pharmaceutical Products affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences, said that most of these drugs are available in the market and were presented to the patients.

“The Incubator Center for the Development of Pharmaceutical Products has produced 120 important pharmaceutical products exclusively since its establishment 20 years ago,” he added, noting that the first high-tech medicine in the country were produced by this center, among which are Factor VIII drugs and blood products.

Khoyee noted that the Center produces 11 drugs exclusively, saying, “$671 million worth of pharmaceutical products were exported by this Center last year.”
