Iranian Firm Produces Photocurable Dental Composite at Lower Price than Foreign Rivals
“Our product is photocurable dental composite which contains nanofillers,” Kiana Karimi, an R&D specialist at Mahya Tarmim company, told ANA on the sidelines of IRANNANO 2022 exhibition in Tehran.
The 13th Nanotechnology Festival and Exhibition (IRANNANO 2022) is being held in Tehran on October 1-4 with participation of over 280 knowledge-based companies active in the field of nanotechnology which have presented more than 1,200 products in different areas.
Noting that there are many foreign firms which have made the photocurable dental composites before, she said, “Mahya Tarmim is the first company which has manufactured this product in Iran.”
“Due to the tax on imports, the prices of composites are higher if they are imported from foreign states so we developed the material with the same quality and lower price in Iran,” Karimi added.
Dental composites (better referred to as ‘resin-based composites’ or simply ‘filled resins’) are dental cements made of synthetic resins.
Synthetic resins evolved as restorative materials since they were insoluble, of good tooth-like appearance, insensitive to dehydration, easy to manipulate and inexpensive.
Composite resins are most commonly composed of Bis-GMA and other dimethacrylate monomers (TEGMA, UDMA, HDDMA), a filler material such as silica and in most applications, a photoinitiator. Dimethylglyoxime is also commonly added to achieve certain physical properties such as flow-ability.
