News ID : 1993

Metabolic syndrome is a group of conditions that raise the risk of coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and other serious health problems. Metabolic syndrome is also called insulin resistance syndrome.

The Iran-made herbal medicine is produced from the stem and root extract of barberry, and it is most used in improving the symptoms of metabolic syndrome, helping to reduce blood sugar and hyperlipidemia in patients.

Having the active ingredients of numerous alkaloid compounds including berberine, it can effectively improve the symptoms of metabolic syndrome through different mechanisms.

Pharmacies, physicians, patients with metabolic syndrome, diabetics, and people with high blood fat are among the users of the product.

The medicine is the only drug produced in the country to improve metabolic syndrome. A similar product is sold in the United States for $25. But the Iran-made product is sold at the price of $5.

It is produced for the first time in the country and has no rival product in the domestic market.

The main components of metabolic syndrome include obesity, high blood pressure, high blood triglycerides, low levels of HDL cholesterol, and insulin resistance.

Healthy eating and increased physical activity are the keys to avoiding or overcoming problems related to metabolic syndrome.

So far, about 30,000 plant species have been identified in the world, with Iran's share of about 8,000 species which is more than the whole of species found in Europe.

Nafiseh Hosseini Yekta, the director of the health ministry’s Persian medicine office, has said Iran ranks fourth worldwide in the production of science in the field of traditional medicine, and the remarkable achievement will improve in the coming years.
