TEHRAN (ANA)- Following arrival of the of Muharram (one of the four sacred months, in which warfare is prohibited in Islam), painters and calligraphers are experiencing busy days preparing banners to be used in mourning rituals and streets in Shiite-dominated areas as martyrdom of Imam Hossein (grandson of the holy prophet of Islam). Muharram commemorations are being held in Kashmir where elegiac poets recite their poems about Imam Hossein (PBUH).

TEHRAN (ANA)- Kashmiri Pandits are Hindu kashmiris who are native to the Kashmir Valley. They are the only remaining Hindu Kashmiris after the large-scale of conversion of the Valley's population to Islam during the medieval times. Prompted by the growth of militancy across the valley, large numbers of Hindus left the region in groups during the 1990s. Demographic composition in Kashmir includes a large number of Muslims (97.06%) and a very small number of Hindus (2.11%) and Sikh (0.58%) population.

TEHRAN (ANA)- During Eid ul Adha, hundreds of sheep and goat could be seen scattered in Eidgah Srinagar city Northern India, the oldest makeshift market for rams and goats in the old city Srinagar.  A total number of 50 to 60 trucks, loaded with sheep, had been arriving in the Kashmir valley daily.

TEHRAN (ANA)- The traditional way of holding wedding ceremony in Jammu and Kashmir in Northern India is quite a sophisticated affair because it constitutes of a series of traditions which must be religiously followed by both the bride and the groom and their respective families. An elaborate wedding feast is called “Wazwan” in Kashmir. It is prepared by Kashmiri chefs known as “Wazas” in copper vessels over wood fires. A traditional Wazwan is comprise of up to 36 courses.

TEHRAN (ANA)- Eid Fitr was celebrated on Wednesday, April 10th, across Jammu and Kashmir with fervor and gaiety. A large gathering took place at Hazratbal Shrine on the banks of world’s famous lake of Dal Lake in Srinagar where is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Thousands of people, who had fasted the holy month of Ramadan, offered prayers in the early morning of the Eid.
