Official: Iran’s Exports to Nigeria Up by 36 Percent
Latifi said that Iran exported over 195,000 tons of goods worth of $115.4 million to Nigeria from March 21 to Nov. 22, showing a 36 percent increase as compared to the same period last year.
He described Nigeria as a lucrative market for Iranian businessmen and merchants both in terms of population and religion and culture, saying that $67.6 billion worth of products were imported into the African country in 2021, $52.4 and $15.2 billion of which were related to the goods and technical-engineering services respectively.
Latifi referred to Iran’s exports to Nigeria, saying that the country exported 266,000 tons of goods worth of $125.3 million to Nigeria last year, showing a 605% growth compared to the previous year.
Iran and the African states exchanged 1.89 million tons worth $992.77 million in the first 7 months of the current Iranian year (started on March 21).
During this period, South Africa with 462,590 tons worth $254.05 million was the main trade partner of Iran followed by Mozambique with 288,305 tons worth $160.82 million and Sudan with 221,205 tons worth $122.76 million.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration’s figures showed that Iran exported 1.83 million tons of goods worth $933.24 million to the African states during the period.
South Africa with 461,840 tons worth $247.62 million was Iran’s main export destination in Africa. Mozambique with 288,305 tons worth $160.82 million and Sudan with 221,123 tons worth $122.34 million came next.
Iran enjoys political relations with 47 out of 54 African countries; a continent with a very large export capacity which is nearly untouched by Iran's exporters. East Africa is the closest region in Africa to Iran and therefore, it is considered a suitable market for Iran's exports after the neighboring countries.
In East Africa, an economic bloc has been formed with participation of six countries of Kenya, Congo, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Sudan, and entering this market can have many advantages for Iran.
