Devices used for diagnosis, prevention, monitoring and treating diseases, relieving, compensating or postponing injury or disability, cleaning or disinfecting equipment and the environment for medical purposes, etc. are considered as an efficient tool in ensuring the health of the patients and health workers.

These equipment are largely imported to Iran although the Iranian specialists have proven their ability and special expertise in producing high-quality products in this field in the past few years.

Therefore, the Biotechnology Development Headquarters of the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy has defined 25 projects for the production of medical equipment and supplies with an emphasis on the domestic technological ecosystem and innovation potentials.

Six projects for production of imaging devices, a project for production of cardiovascular stents, 10 projects for the production of raw materials for manufacturing medical equipment, four projects for the production of blood glucose devices and blood glucose test strips and four projects for the production of biomaterials are among the projects supposed to be able to create high added value and jobs in Iran.

The Austrian journal EuroPages in a report in 2019 had expressed wonder that Iranian scientists were able to make products that compete with those of large companies from Germany, South Korea, the United States and Britain and take their market share worldwide.

The Austrian journal said that Iranian companies had exported 20 million Euros of laboratory equipment.

Based on the report, a third of this amount is exported by knowledge-based companies, showing that the technical inventions in the production of such equipment had eye-catchingly increased.
