Iranian Specialists Produce DNA Extraction Kit without Need to Solvents, Organic Compounds
“The use of common methods based on solvents and organic compounds are dangerous to both the user and the environment and do not enjoy the necessary quality. On the other hand, the use of commercial kits based on nucleic acid extraction columns requires spending money,” Abbas Soleimani Delfan, a Ph.D. graduate of microbiology (virology and phage therapy) at the University of Isfahan, told ANA.
“Therefore, we decided to provide this product based on the fundamental principles of chemistry and biophysics, to extract the desired genetic material (DNA, RNA) in the shortest possible time, with the highest acceptable quality and at a very low cost,” he added.
Soleimani Delfan noted that his new achievement, the DNA and RNA extraction kits, are free of alcohol compounds and organic solvents, and they do not need nucleic acid extraction columns, adding that the new kits can be used in the next generation sequencing (NGS) processes.
DNA extraction is a method to purify DNA by using physical and/or chemical methods from a sample separating DNA from cell membranes, proteins, and other cellular components.
